Special Collections has been fortunate to be the beneficiary of a number of endowments which enhance the collections and make possible expanded opportunities for research and learning. The following are the named current endowments that provide funds for Special Collections.

Did You Know ...

• Special Collections holds over 350 books concerning diet among its extensive Cookery Materials. The earliest is Thomas Moffett's Health Improvement..., published in London in 1655.
• Special Collections displays and highlights materials from its collections in exhibit cases that surround the reading room. These displays are changed several times a year.
• The Natural History holdings in Special Collections includes a copy of Ulisse Aldrovandi's, De animalibus insectis (Frankfurt, 1623), the earliest known full length work on insects.
• Acquired in 1961, the Communist Party of the U.S.A Collection helped precipitate the opening of Special Collections. The collection of 4,000 titles consists of works published by and about the Communist Party and its front organizations.
